Vale Alan Triscott - 1928 - 2021
Brighton Little Athletics, LAVic and the whole Little Athletics community nationally have been saddened to learn of the recent passing of Alan Triscott, the co-founder and pioneer of the Little Athletics movement.
Born in England, Alan, along with co-founding partner Trevor Billingham, set about creating Little Athletics in 1964 following an inaugural children’s athletics competition held at Landy Field, Geelong. Bouyed by the tremendous local support, high levels of interest and popularity of Little Athletics, in the following years - legend has it - that Alan & Trevor would travel thousands of kilometres by road all over Victoria, and later by air interstate, establishing scores of Little Athletics Centres country-wide.
Alan was acting chairman at the Victorian Little Athletics Association’s inaugural meeting in March 1967 before being elected to the Board of Management a year later. He went on to become instrumental in setting up the Australian Little Athletics Union and became its first secretary & treasurer. Alan’s massive contribution to the sport was formally recognised with the awarding of Life Governor of Victorian Little Athletics in 1975 (one year after co-founding partner Trevor Billingham received the same accolade), Life Membership of Australian Little Athletics and he was inducted into the Little Athletics Australia Hall of Fame.
Alan was inaugural President of the Little Athletics Association of Victoria in 1966-67.
We would like to express our deepest sympathies to Alan’s wife Kate, family and friends.
Season 2020/21 Wrap Up
The arrival of the soccer goal posts on Dendy Park means the summer track and field season has come to an end. Thanks to everyone who made this season possible - it's a tremendous effort to get the athletes out on the track each week and 2020/21 was another fantastic year down at Dendy Park.
Congratulations to all those who took part in State Relay Championships at Casey Fields over the last weekend. Fittingly for this season, the weather was a factor for those events early in the day but everyone made the best of the situation, and special mention to the U10 Boys 4*100m who came 3rd overall.
Brighton Little Athletics will hold its AGM at 7.30pm, 21st April at Bentleigh RSL. If you are planning to attend please RSVP to brianballamy@hotmail.com so we can cater appropriately.
A reminder that Bayside XC offers cross country running over the winter, and the chance to mix with runners from other local little athletics clubs. Format of the day allows for a short duration where you can leave after your event (if BLAC is not on duty of course) . After a cancelled 2020 season, work has commenced on the 2021 season, with first race planned for 24th April.
2021 Commonwealth Bank State Track & Field Championships
Congratulations to all of the athletes that represented the club at the recent SMR Region Track & Field Championships. There were so many great results from the entire team and the club is very proud of the way each athlete competed.
At 5.00pm today, LA Vic will release the list of those athletes that will progress to the 2021 Commonwealth Bank LA Vic State Track and Field Championships. Please ensure that you take the time to see if your athlete has progressed. Further communications will be sent in due course.
